SLOVAKIA VS UNITED STATES

The USA continued to dominate in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and came away with 7 - 1 win over Slovakia.

 

USA scored 2 goals in the first period the first at 2:34 by Nick Pastujov.  Midway into the period Max Jones scored the first of four USA power play goals in the game.

 

USA lead 2 - 0 after the first period and outshot Slovakia 14-5.

 

 

 

In the second period the Slovakia was on the power play when USA's Clayton Keller picked up the puck after it had hit a linesman at their own blueline and he skated in and scored a shorthanded breakaway goal. 
 


One of three Slovakia sixteen year old players Adam Ruzicka finally broke the drought and scored the first goal of the tournament for Slovakia.  Ruzicka parked in front of the net picked up the pass from Marian Studenic and banged in the home run.  The excitement died just over a minute later when William Lockwood scored the USA fourth goal.  Period ended with the USA leading 4 - 1.  Slovakia out shot the USA in the second 12-10.

 


 

In the third a frustrated Slovak team received six penalties and allow the USA to score three power play goals.  Scoring for USA Clayton Keller, Nick Pastujov and William Lockwood.

 

In total the USA scored four times on eight power play opportunities.  Slovakia went zero for four.

 

 

The USA outshot Slovakia in the third 13 - 4 given the USA a total of 37 shots on net,  Slovakia tallied 21.

 

Earning the win in net was Jake Oettinger making 20 saves.  David Hrenak went the distance making 30 saves.

"The guys played hard," USA Head Coach said Danton Cole said  "They did a good job and stuck with the game plan.  Sometimes these games are a little bit difficult but they did a good job working through it and kept shooting kept playing the game."

 Slovakia will meet Sweden for the only afternoon game on Tuesday beginning at 3:00 pm in Lambton Shores.  The USA will go up against Canada at 7:00 pm in Lambton Shores.
