Hoosiers Fall To
Wisconsin in Overtime
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University
women’s soccer team put pressure on the Wisconsin
(4-3-3, 1-0-1 Big Ten) defense for most of the game, but
just over a minute into overtime a Badgers crossing pass
found the foot of Monica Lam-Feist to give the Hoosiers
a 1-0 loss on Sunday at Armstrong Stadium.
“Our effort today was excellent,” Indiana head coach
Mick Lyon said. “We really played well and had them on
their heels quite a bit but Wisconsin was able to find a
way to get one in during overtime. I am disappointed in
the result but I’m very pleased with how we played and
the improvement we continue to show each game.”
It was the Hoosiers (4-6-1, 0-2-0 Big Ten) that had the
first good scoring chance when Carly Samp put Rebecca
Candler in behind the UW defense but her shot on goal
curled wide right.
Indiana controlled possession for most of the first half
and held a 6-4 advantage in shots and forced UW
goalkeeper Michele Dalton to make three saves in the
half.
Coming out after halftime, Indiana once again held
control of the ball and was able to control play with a
tremendous effort in the midfield. Midway through the
half, Kaylin Clow and Darby Hannon came off the bench to
give the starting IU forwards a break and collaborated
on another great scoring chance. Clow took a pass
inside the box on the far side and slid a pass to Hannon
just outside the penalty kick area but her shot sailed
just to the right of the near post.
The game ended with the Hoosiers making a furious push
towards the UW goal and ended with Becca Zambon sending
a low shot towards the near post with less than five
seconds to go in the half that Dalton was forced to make
a diving save on and force overtime.
In the overtime session, Wisconsin took possession first
and Alev Kelter sent Lauren Cochlin into the corner with
touch pass. Cochlin then sent a high crossing pass into
the box that carried just over IU goalkeeper Shannon
Flower’s hands and onto the right foot of Monica Lam-Feist
for the goal.
Flower was stellar in goal for the Hoosiers all day,
making a couple of diving saves against the dangerous
Laurie Nosbusch. Perhaps the most notable was a 1-on-1
breakaway that Nosbusch had and Flower aggressively came
out of the goal and went to the ground before Nosbusch
could slip the shot under her.
Indiana will now hit the road for more conference play
next weekend with games at Michigan State on Friday and
at Illinois on Sunday. |
