Hoosiers Take Down Conference Leader No. 18 Ohio State
Senior Jocelyn Moses scored her first goal of the season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior forward Jocelyn Moses’ goal in the 68th minute proved to be enough as a superior effort by the Indiana (6-11-1, 2-7 Big Ten) defense gave the Hoosiers a 1-0 win over No. 18 Ohio State (13-4-1, 7-2 Big Ten) at Armstrong Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

“We really showed some guts and heart out there today,” Indiana head coach Mick Lyon said following the Hoosiers first win over a ranked opponent since a 1-0 victory against No. 20 Michigan State on Oct. 2, 2009.

“It was a great shot by Jocelyn that found the net just inside the far post and Shannon Flower was brilliant in goal today,” Lyon continued.  “Our other defenders did an outstanding job against their attack to help us get the shutout.”

With the game still scoreless early in the second half, Moses had the ball deep in the left corner and attempted to send a centering pass into the box but the OSU defenders blocked that attempt.  Moses stayed with it and was able to corral the loose ball and lift a high ball towards the goal that curled inside the crossbar and back post for her first goal of the season.

“I saw the back post was open so I just tried to kick it as hard as I could and it went in,” Moses said.

In goal for the Hoosiers, freshman Shannon Flower picked up her first career shutout by making six saves.  She received a little help from freshman defender Lara Ross, who made a key save on an OSU shot with less than five minutes left that seemed destined for the back of the net.

Statistically, Ohio State held the advantage in shots (15-6) and corner kicks (10-4) but the Indiana defense forced most of those shots to be taken from long range and they were able to clear away most of the corner kicks before the Buckeyes could get to them.

Indiana will close out the regular season on Friday at home against Minnesota starting at 7:00 p.m. ET.  It will also be Senior Day, as the five seniors on the IU roster will be recognized for their efforts over the last four years.
