CHICAGO – The Big Ten Conference
announced its weekly award winners and
Indiana sophomore Devon Beach was named
Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the first
weekly award for the native of Sarnia,
Ontario, Canada. It the first time since
2007 that the Hoosiers have had a player win
offensive player of the week from the Big
Ten.
Beach was an offensive catalyst this weekend
for the IU women’s soccer team as they
improved to 5-0-0 to start the year to match
the best start in school history set in 1994
and matched in 2000. It is also the best
start for the Hoosiers since head coach Mick
Lyon took over to start the 2002 season.
The sophomore got the Hoosiers on the board
against No. 6 Florida on Friday with a
header off a free kick by Chloe McKay that
left the UF keeper with no chance to stop
the shot. Then, midway through the second
overtime period, Beach scooped up a loose
ball around midfield and took a couple
dribbles before sending a perfect through
ball to Leigh Anne Cummings, who found the
back of the net for the game winning goal in
a 2-1 victory. |
