“We dominated
play in the first half and
outshot them considerably,” said
IU head coach Mick Lyon, “but
the second half was more evenly
matched. We made added an
couple more attackers after we
got down by two goals and were
able to tie it. But Wisconsin
made a good strike at the end
and we were not able to stop
it.”
Indiana dominated play in the
first half, recording nine shots
to just one for the Badgers.
The Hoosiers also drew three
corners to two for Wisconsin as
both teams went to the locker
room scoreless.
In the second
half, Wisconsin came out firing
and ended the half with 11 shots
to eight for Indiana and their
aggressive play paid off early
as Laurie Nosbusch netted her
first goal of the season when
she collected a rebound and put
it in just inside the far post
to give Wisconsin a 1-0 lead in
the 52nd minute.
Nosbusch was back at in the 73rd
minute when she punched in a
cross for her second goal of the
game to give Wisconsin a
commanding 2-0 lead with just 17
minutes remaining.
But Indiana
would not go away and the looked
to make another rousing comeback
on the road just as they did at
Hofstra ealier this season. In
the 73rd minute Carly
Samp sent a crossing pass in
front of the goal that found the
head of a diving Devon Beach for
the third goal of the season for
Beach.
Just three
minutes later it would be Beach
that would make a long run up
the sideline, beating four
Wisconsin players on her way to
the box where she then dropped
the ball off to Samp who beat
the UW keeper from point-blank
range to tie the game and
re-energize the Hoosiers for the
closing minutes.
“Devon had an
amazing individual effort on our
second goal. Just when it
looked like she was going to
have the ball taken away she
held onto it and beat another
player to put Carly in position
for the goal,” said Lyon.
Wisconsin
continued to put pressure on the
Hoosier defense in the closing
minutes and after drawing a pair
of corner kicks with less than
three minutes remaining,
Nosbusch broke loose again and
put home the game-winner, her
third goal of the game.
Redshirt
freshman Lex Dickison made her
first start in goal for Indiana
and made three saves.
Indiana will
host a pair of Big Ten opponents
this week starting with a Friday
night game against Michigan
State, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Then on Sunday the Hoosiers play
host to Illinois at 2:00 p.m.
