“Asking our players
to play four of the
top five teams in
eight days in a
conference as tough
as the Big Ten
called for a heroic
effort,” said
Indiana head coach
MickLyon. “But our
players played
extremely hard all
the way through the
final whistle but we
just came up a
little short
tonight.”
Minnesota got the
game-winning goal in
the 79th
minute when Molly
Rouse scored her
fifth goal of the
season on a corner
kick with the assist
going to Katie
Bethke. Indiana
goalkeeper Lauren
Hollandsworth made
five saves in a
losing effort for
the Hoosiers.
Indiana (10-7-2,
2-6-2 Big Ten) had
the first shot of
the game and then
got their only two
corner kicks of the
game in the first
half before
Minnesota (12-5-3,
5-3-2 Big Ten) was
able to get its
first shot. The
teams went on to
finish the first
half with four shots
apiece.
Then in the second
half, the Gophers
hit the post with
their first shot of
the half less than
three minutes into
the half. They
followed it up with
two more shots on
goal that
Hollandsworth saved
to keep the game
scoreless. The
Hoosiers tried to
break into the
scoring column on
shots by Orianica
Velasquez Herrera
and Carly Samp but
UM keeper Cat
Parkhill was up to
the task.
