The Hoosiers had two first half goals, one
from each Devon Beach and Orianica Velasquez
Herrera. The goals marked the first for
Beach on the season and the first collegiate
score for Velasquez Herrera. Jocelyn Moses
added the third and final goal to secure the
win in the 77th minute.
With her second shutout of the year,
Campbell has now recorded five straight
shutouts dating back to last season. She
has not allowed a goal in the last 510:58,
which is the second longest shutout streak
in IU women’s soccer history. The longest
came from Oct. 2 through Oct. 31, 1993, when
the Hoosiers stifled its opponents for
808:34.
The Hoosiers controlled the play from the
outset and got on the scoreboard first with
a long shot from outside the box by Devon
Beach at the 19-minute-mark, with the assist
going to Chloe McKay to take a 1-0 lead.
Beach tapped the ball to McKay off the
corner kick and McKay then dropped it off to
Beach who sent a perfect shot to far corner
of the goal for her first tally of the
season.
Velasquez Herrera made the board read 2-0 in
IU’s favor with her first career tally on a
Devon Beach assist at the 13:59 mark. The
freshman blasted home a shot from 30 yards
into the upper-right corner of the net for
her first collegiate goal in her first game.
After continuing to control play throughout
the half, junior Jocelyn Moses tallied her
first goal of the season with thirteen
minutes left on the board. Carly Samp sent
a cross to the middle of the box to Liz
Holby who touched the ball to the right side
where Moses was waiting to put the ball in
the back of the net to give Indiana a 3-0
lead.
The Hoosiers outshot the Purple Aces in the
game, 22-3 and earned 11 corner kicks to
five for the Purple Aces.
