Suspects and Hammocks Remain Perfect
June
4, 2009
As it seems that global warming is
not working to heat things up in Sarnia this June, the
Sarnia Ultimate Frisbee league took matters into their
own hands with a night of hot disc action at Lansdowne
Field Thursday evening. The first week of regular season
play brought about some fiery competitions, including a
seesaw marathon match-up between the Huckstables and the
Megalomaniacs. The two teams played many stretched out
and scorching points back and forth to half time, with
an almost even score as the sun began to fade and other
teams began to finish. The Megalomaniacs were just
starting to warm up however, and made some incredible
late game plays including a searing catch by April
Brethauer which included a slide, and large grass stain.
The Megalomaniacs eventually won the match-up just
before sun-down 15-11.
Also at Lansdowne, the blistering Banana Hammocks let it
all hang out as they battled Hungate’s Mom. With
Hungate’s Mom up 8-7 at the half, The Banana Hammocks
solved their opponent’s defensive zone, outscoring them
8-3 in the second half. The deciding factor of the game
as the strength of the Banana Hammocks’ women, who
combined to score the majority of the points. Rookies
Michael Raiger and Jacob White had strong games for the
respective teams. The Banana Hammocks are also
particularly proud of last year's captain Jen Graham,
who has surpassed her attendance record from all of last
year, making the
first 4 games so far.
The Suspects claimed a quick victory over the Bulldogs
15-7 with only one sub for the entire team. Brain
Thorne had an incredible defensive game for the Suspects
while adding 4 points on offence. Amy Hogervorst also
put 4 points up on the board. Team captain Kevin Brown
had a great handling game throwing 14 of 15 Suspects
points.
At Canatara Park Red Army took on Delusions of Grandeur,
who seem to have an intense match-up every week. Red
Army came close to victory, but unfortunately lost a
bitter contest 13-15. |
