The
Sarnia Sting Minor Atom MD's
recently hosted the London
Bandits (Orange team) at
Sarnia's famous 'Old Barn' - the
Sarnia Arena. This was the
Sting's third game of the season
having tied the two previous.
Sarnia came out of the gate
quickly scoring in the opening
minute of action, when Lleyton
Williams jumped on a loose puck
and buried it into the London
net. The Sting took a two goal
lead when left-winger Mateo
Troiani found himself alone,
infront of the net , wristing the
puck top-shelf behind a
sprawling Bandit goalie. Sting
goalie Ian Stauth stood tall in
goal making some key saves to
keep the Bandits off the
scoreboard in the first period.
London started the second period
strong looking for their first
goal of the game. Sarnia's
defense held firm though,
denying most solid scoring
opportunities. The pressure
finally paid off as London
scored half way through the
second. The Sting poised
themselves determined to restore
the two goal advantage. The game
began to open up as the pace
became fast and furious. Sting
defenseman Quinlan Schmidt took
the puck in his own zone and
went end to end, in a Bobby
Orr fashion, firing the puck
from inside the blueline over
the shoulder of a surprised
London goalie. Sarnia closed the
second period up 3 - 1.
The
Bandits seemed to get stronger
as the game went on. Their
strong forechecking rewarded
them with two quick goals as
they quickly tied the game with
three minutes to go. Sarnia held
off the late fury and settled
for their third tie of the
year. They are now tied for the
lead in the Alliance Western
League Division with three
points.
