Sarnia Spirit (3) vs. Middlesex United Canstars (1)

May 21, 2009

The Sarnia Spirit girls travelled to Strathroy home of the Middlesex Canstars for their second game of the season.  The Spirit girls came out strong with several scoring chances early in the first ten minutes of play, but were not able to find the back of the net.  At the 18-minute mark of the 1st half of play Melissa Blair crossed a pass from the outside right side of the field to land just in front of the opposition’s net.  Alicia DaSilva would put away her 1st of three goals for the night.  Approximately 2 minutes later, another cross pass from Melissa Blair would hit the corner post and Alicia DaSilva was there to tap it in.  The first half of play would end with Sarnia up 2 goals to 0.

Very early in the 2nd half, Lilia Pasqual would feed the ball up the middle to Allison Deery who one-touch passed it to Lauren Holman who crossed a beautiful pass directly in front of the net and Alicia would be there again to one-time the ball to the back side of the net.  Sarnia was up by three goals.  Middlesex would respond with a goal only minutes later sailing the ball just over the head of Mackenzie Turner.  The score would remain 3-1 with the win for Sarnia.  The Spirit girls played a very good defensive 2nd half with Turner making some great saves, keeping Sarnia ahead throughout the game.
