Sarnia Spirit U-11 vs.
Chatham
August 17
Sarnia hosted the Chatham
girls at the Veterans Memorial Park. Sarnia was looking
to beat Chatham after a scoreless tie earlier in the
season.
Early in the match Lauren
Shaw utilized her speed to beat a defender outside.
Shaw’s shot could not be controlled by the keeper and
Kyleigh Arthur buried the rebound for a quick 1-0 lead.
The match turned into a
defensive battle after the initial goal and neither side
was able to capitalize further. Emma Coleman earned the
shutout in the Sarnia goal.
Spirit U-11 vs. Lambeth Lightning
August 24/09
A win in Lambeth would
guarantee Sarnia second place in the league and a birth
in L4 competition for 2010.
Sarnia started strong.
Claire Vanden Eynde beat a defender from her wing
position and crossed a ball to Kyleigh Arthur. Arthur
couldn’t connect but the ball bounced to Vanessa Bucci
who hammered a shot high over the net. Vanden Eynde
crossed the ball again but Katie Barwitzki’s shot sailed
wide.
Nicole Bus stepped up from
her defensive position and passed the ball downfield to
Vanden Eynde. Vanden Eynde spotted Arthur but Kyleigh’s
shot bounced off a defender back to Vanden Eynde. Vanden
Eynde sent a shot high into the net and Sarnia led a 1-0
lead at half.
Lauren Shaw replaced in net
by Kristy Hodgins, controlled the ball from a pass from
Cameron George. A hard shot short side could not beat
the Lambeth goalie. Vanessa Wardell won a 50/50 ball and
forwarded on to Barwitzki. A quick pass to Arthur was
deftly tipped but the keeper was up to the task and
thwarted the attempt. George forwarded to Pettit who
drove a hard shot at the goal but again the Lambeth
keeper kept her team in the game. Sarnia was awarded a
corner, a nice cross to Barwitzki who was allowed to
turn and slam in a left footed laser gave the Spirit a
commanding 2-0 advantage.
A Wardell throw in was
crossed to Arthur who turned and found the bottom corner
of the net for a 3-0 Sarnia lead. Sarnia rounded
out the scoring when Wardell spotted Shaw who passed
over to Bucci. Bucci went wide to Kelly Hodgins. Hodgins
blasted a hard shot and the rebound went to a charging
Kristin Parkes. Parkes made no mistake for a 4-0
victory, sealing second place in the league.
Sarnia
next plays the unbeaten first place London Super Sonics
Wednesday Sept. 2 in London.
