Spirit U10 Beat
Wallaceburg A
July 15, 2009
Sarnia travelled to Wallaceburg recently hoping to keep
joint top spot in U10 Lambton Kent District soccer.
Sarnia were dealt a blow with news that Center Midfielder
Sydney Caron could be out for 6 weeks due to leg injury.
Sarnia started slow and were under some early pressure from
the home side. Some fine saves from Daphine Hibma in net and
good defence from Alexa Eldridge, and Madisyn Mika assured
Sarnia didnt lose any goals.
With 10 min to half Sarnia began to step it up and took the
lead with a nice pass from Mickayla Moses found Bianca
Sapone at the back post to tap in. Sarnia added another just
before half after a nice defensive pass from Alexa Eldridge
to Bianca Sapone. Bianca again teamed up well with Mickayla
Moses with a nice through pass for Mickayla to shoot and
score. 2 - 0 half time. Daphine Hibma had the 1st half shut
out.
2nd half Sarnia took control and played with alot more
confidence. Carmen Handy moved into Center midfield and
linked well with Chloe Kennedy upfront. They were
rewarded when a nice through ball from Carmen found Chloe 50
50 with the goalie, Chloe managed to win the tackle and slot
the ball home. Sarah McCormick then put a nice cross over to
Carmen Handy who's shot just hit the side net.
Sarnia's 4th goal came with some good 1- 2 passing from
Chloe and Carmen with a low hard shot from Chloe Kennedy to
score her second of the game. Julie Blanchette added a fifth
goal with a low hard shot and Morgan Waggs who battled hard
on the wing was rewarded with a goal after a nice run and
finishing with a good shot to beat the goalie. Skylr Melton,
worked well down the wing, found space on the left and put
in a nice pass to Mickayla Moses to shoot hard into the net.
Credit to Wallaceburg they kept fighting and were rewarded
with a late goal which unfortunately slipped through Sarah
McCormick's legs in net. Final score 7 - 1 Sarnia.
Sarnia Defeat Wallaceburg
B
July 24, 2009
Sarnia hosted Wallaceburg B missus a few players through
holidays and injury's. Sarnia were happy to call up Alicia
Burnside, Grace McClure and Eden Platter who all played well
in helping Sarnia to a win.
Spirit took the lead in the 1st half after a nice throw in
from Alexa Eldridge found Sarah McCormick in space. Sarah
made no mistake with the shot and rifled it into the net
from outside the box. Sarnia went further ahead Bianca
Sapone robbed the Wallaceburg defencer and passed to
Mickayla Moses. Mickayla who passed to Alicia Burnside
who shot past the goalie to go 2 - 0 up. Eden Platter was
unlucky after a nice run and shot was stopped on the goal
line. Wallaceburg pressed and pulled 1 back before half.
Sarnia kept the momentum in the second half when Eden
Platter sent in a nice cross for Grace McClure to shot and
score. Sarnia now in control added a 4th goal when Skylr
Melton won a goal mouth scramble and fed the ball to Carmen
Handy to score. Sarnia put the game out of reach when
Mickalya Moses hit a lovely shot into the top corner for the
fifth.
Sarnia had some more chances with a nice cross from Grace
McClure found Skylr Melton who's unlucky shot was saves by
Wallaceburg. A nice give and go between Grace and Eden
Platter was also unlucky after the shot went wide.
Against the run of play Wallaceburg found themselves on a
breakaway but were denied with a great save from Daphine
Hibma in net. Final score 5 - 1 Sarnia.
