Bluewater Jr. Blaze vs. Guelph
The Bluewater Jr. Blaze
wanted to get back to their winning ways when they
hosted the Guelph Royals.
Guelph wanted to show the
hosts they came to play. A quick through ball beat the
Blaze defense but the shot went wide of Josh Graham in
the Blaze goal. Confusion in the Bluewater backfield
allowed Guelph another opportunity. A pass wide was
returned into the middle of the field and finished for a
1-0 Guelph lead.
The first 20 minutes
belonged to Guelph but Bluewater wasn’t ready to quit.
Dilly Ohuegbe hustled to keep the ball in play near the
Guelph goal. A short side shot was deflected wide by the
keeper. The ensuing corner found the foot of Richael
O’Neill but his rising shot was high over the bar.
The Blaze had found their game. Continued pressure
resulted in a direct Free Kick outside the 18 yard box.
O’Neill made no mistake and knotted the game at 1.
The Blaze tried to take the
lead before half when a short corner kick was taken by
O’Neill to Zach Horvath but the shot was off the mark
wide. 1-1
was the score
at half.
Bluewater started the second
half where they left off the first. A corner kick found
Mitch Leblanc in front and Leblanc buried the chance for
a 2-1 lead.
The Blaze was hungry for
more goals. Dylan Wardell started a passing play to
Ohuegbe who crossed to O’Neill. O’Neill couldn’t connect
but Leblanc was there again but this time his shot went
high. Garth Denys read a Guelph pass and stepped up to
intercept the ball. Denys took the space granted to him
and fired a shot that curled just wide of the post.
Bluewater thought they increased their lead when Ohuegbe
passed wide to O’Neill the cross found the head of
Brandon Foster and the back of the twine, but a quick
look saw the linesman’s flag raised offside.
Bluewater was now dominating
the play but still only had a one goal lead. Foster
found Matt Cservik who spotted Ohuegbe but the ball
missed the post on the far side.
Ohuegbe won the ball from a
Guelph player and passed to Cservik but the attempt
sailed wide.
Horvath attacked from the
wing and found Cservik but Matt was unable to finish the
chance.
Guelph knew one goal would
even the match even though they had been outplayed. A
hard charge down the field saw Graham rush the player
and make the save.
A Bluewater free kick was
lobbed by Leblanc to Ohuegbe. A cross Cservik in the
proper position but the shot was hammered over the net.
The final whistle blew and
Bluewater had earned a 2-1 home win over Guelph.
