Their opponents
got on the scoreboard early in the game but
Jillian Rops didn’t let them have the lead
long. She took the puck in wide and a
beautiful long shot hit the top corner.
Sandwich battled a somewhat tired Lancer
team in the second period and beat Amelia
Maniuk two more times to end the 2nd 3-1.
Coach Sparks must have lit a fire under the
girls between periods as they came out
flying in the third period. Karly Dobbin
scored in the first minute on a pass from
her sister Kelsey. The Lancers kept the
pressure up and were rewarded shortly after
on a beautiful goal by Jessica Weed. The
game stayed tied 3-3 with the Lancers
creating some great scoring chances but
couldn’t beat the Sandwich goal tending.
Late in the third period Sandwich playing
with a very shortened bench, got a goal to
take a 4-3 lead.
The score
remained to give the Sandwich team the
SWOSSA championship and a spot at the OFSAA
Championships. Windsor’s coach was very
impressed with the strength and depth of the
Lancer girls saying they were definitely the
better team. This loss was the girls first
league loss of the season. The girls ended
a wonderful successful season remaining
undefeated in the North Lambton tournament,
the Listowel tournament, and the LSSAA
league championship. Graduating Lancers
Kelsey Dobbin and Andie Hunter will be
missed next year.
The girls are coached by Roger Sparks, Sara
Krawetz, Ted Sylvester and Kendra Broad.
