The Northern Jr.
Football team started their 2009 season with
a convincing win against the Petrolia
Lancers.
Scoring began at
the 7:00 minute mark of the first quarter,
when Curtis Robichaud completed a long
Vikings' drive with a 3 yard run into the
endzone. Paul Kaija kicked the extra
point.
The Vikings
started the second quarter with a Paul Kaija
field goal, and 5:00 minutes later Jacob
Packer added a major on a 10 yard
run. Kaija added the extra point.
The Vikings
closed the half with a late touchdown when
their quarterback, Carter Winberg, kept the
ball and made it into the endzone. Kaija's
extra point gave the Vikings a 24-0 halftime
lead.
Robichaud was at
it again in the second half, opening the 3rd
quarter with an interception and 50 yard run
back for a touchdown. As the third quarter
wound down, Winberg added another major of
his own and his back-up, Kyle Ross, made a
strong showing at QB, running it in for a
touchdown of his own. Kaija made good on
all 2nd half extra point attempts.
Matt Klaudi
stood out on defense for the Vikings with a
key interception.
