OWEN SOUND –
Special
teams proved
to be a
killer for
the Sarnia
Sting on
Saturday
night.
The Owen
Sound Attack
scored three
power play
goals and
added three
shorthanded
markers in
rolling to a
9-4 victory
over the
Sting before
2,889 fans
at the Harry
Lumley
Bayshore
Community
Centre.
The loss
dropped
Sarnia’s
record to
4-6-1-0 in
the Ontario
Hockey
League. Owen
Sound
improved to
10-2-0 and
remain
unbeaten on
home ice at
6-0.
After losing
in Sarnia
Friday
night, the
Attack came
out fired up
and jumped
out to a 4-0
lead before
the game was
14 minutes
old. They
held a 5-1
after the
firs period
and extended
the lead to
7-3 after 40
minutes.
Sting head
coach Dave
MacQueen was
not pleased
with his
team’s
performance.
“We warned
them before
the game
Owen Sound
would come
out strong.
We felt we
were too
loose before
the game. We
just didn’t
compete. You
aren’t going
to win many
games in
this league,
no matter if
it’s a
top-ranked
team or any
team if you
don’t
compete. I
thought we
would have a
little more
jump and
some
confidence
coming off
the win, but
it didn’t
happen.
“It was a
joke and it
was
embarrassing.
Our power
play was a
joke and so
was our
penalty-killing.
I was
running out
of guys to
put out
there.”
MacQueen did
not spare
anyone.
“All 20 guys
got to play
tonight.
After the
game the
coaching
staff felt
only four
guys on our
team
competed. Of
the four,
two were
defencemen
and you can
argue they
are our
sixth and
seventh
defencemen.
The two
forwards
play on our
third and
fourth
lines. If we
have to rely
on those
four guys,
we are in
big
trouble.”
He added,
“maybe you
should go in
the room and
ask the
players what
they thought
because you
can’t print
some of the
things I
want to
say.”
Joey Hishon
led the
attack with
two goals
and three
assists.
Garrett
Wilson added
two goals
while
singles went
to Cameron
Brace, Jesse
Blacker,
Andrew Shaw
and Michael
Halmo and
Andrew
Fritsch.
Nail Yakupov
(on a
penalty
shot), Joe
Rogalski,
Garrett
Hooey and
Craig Hottot
scored for
Sarnia.
John Cullen
started in
goal for the
Sting and
was chased
after
allowing
four goals
on just 12
shots.
Rookie
Brandon Hope
finished.
Jordan
Billington
went the
distance in
goal for the
Attack. Owen
Sound held a
50-24 edge
in shots on
goal The
Attack went
three-for-13
on the power
play. But
two of their
three
shorthanded
goals came
on the same
Sting power
play in the
first period
that staked
the Attack
to a 4-0
lead. Sarnia
was
one-for-nine
on the power
play and
added a
shorthanded
goal.
Two Sting
defencemen
face
suspension.
Kyle
Flemington
was handed a
match
penalty late
in the third
period while
Ron Soucie
was given an
instigator
in a fight
on the same
play.
Flemington
faces a
three-game
suspension
and Soucie
two.
Sarnia’s
next action
is Wednesday

Saginaw to
meet the
Spirit for
the first
time this
season. They

next weekend
for a pair
of games at
the RBC
Centre. They

Brampton

Saturday at
7:05 p.m.
and the
Sault Ste.
Marie
Greyhounds
Sunday at 2
