Goalie
Michael Hutchinson, who the Knights
acquired from the Barrie Colts in an
off-season deal, went the distance in
goal for London stopping all 25 shots he
faced to record the shutout. Shayne
Campbell started in goal for Sarnia and
allowed two goals on 15 shots before
giving way to free agent goalie Jesse
Raymond midway through the second
period. Raymond gave up three goals on
18 shots.
Sting head
coach Dave MacQueen, who again watched
the game from the press box, was not
overly pleased with his team's
performance.
"We didn't
have the same jump we had in Windsor the
night before. But this was a good test
for our young guys. Many of them have
not played three games in three nights
like we are doing this weekend. Some of
them came to camp thinking they worked
hard over the summer, but it wasn't hard
enough. Some of them need to get into
better shape."
So how do
young players adjust to a 68-game
schedule of the OHL? "Obviously
experience is a big thing, but talking
to the veterans on what it takes, how to
get proper rest and how to eat properly.
Right now it's something they aren't use
to."
He added,
"We weren't took bad in the opening
seven or eight minutes of the game, but
penalties took any momentum we had
away."
Steve
Tarasuk led London with two goals while
Garett Hunter, Jason Wilson and Colin
Martin added singles. Three of the five
London goals came on the power play.
Sarnia
played without second year defenceman
Daniel Broussard who suffered a broken
right hand during a fight in Thursday's
game against Windsor. The fight took
place late in the third period against
ex-Sting Mitch Dunning. "I hit him with
right on the cheekbone," said Broussard.
"It was pretty sore after that."
Broussard had x-rays Friday morning and
his hand was placed in a cast. But he
may not be out of action that long
according to MacQueen.
"He's going
to be in the cast he has one for a week
to 10 days and then he's going to have
playing cast put on. We think it's not
as bad as first thought. You never like
to see an injury like that in
pre-season."
The Sting
also announced Friday they have traded
over-age forward Daniel Lombardi to the
Belleville Bulls. In exchange the Sting
will receive a conditional fourth-round
draft pick in 2010. If Lombardi is still
with the Bulls after Nov. 15 of this
year, the 14th round pick becomes an
eight-rounder.
Lombardi was
a second round pick of the Sting back in
2005. His OHL career has been plagued
with injuries.
