The Sarnia Sting goes after
their second win in a row
tonight when they host the
Erie Otters at the RBC
Centre.
Game time is 7:35 p.m. for
the Ontario Hockey League
contest.
Sarnia is coming off an
emotional 3-2 shootout win
over the Plymouth Whalers on
Thursday night. Rookie
forward Zack MacQueen was
the only shooter of six to
score in the shootout.
The Sting has taken seven
out of a possible eight
points in their last four
games. That comes on the
heels after dropping eight
games in a row.
“We are not out of the woods
yet,” said Sting head coach
Dave MacQueen, when asked
about his team’s performance
over the past week and a
half.
“We are a team that you have
to keep pounding home the
basics. It’s nice to show
areas of improvement, but we
also have to not take too
many steps backwards. Taking
seven of eight points is a
big confidence builder for
our team. We still have five
games left before the
Christmas break and it would
be nice to play .500 hockey
and have the players feeling
good about themselves when
they go home.”
Tonight is the third of four
meetings between the Sting
and Otters. Sarnia won the
first game at the RBC Centre
while Erie won in a shootout
last Saturday.
“In talking with the Erie
people after the game a week
ago they felt they didn’t
play that well and still got
the two points. We felt we
deserved a better fate. Erie
will be playing their third
game in as many nights while
we get a night off.”
MacQueen added, “We have to
approach this game like any
other. We have to keep it
simple and do the basics.”
Both teams come into
tonight’s game having played
32 games apiece.
The Sting will likely have
defenceman Brent Sullivan
back in the lineup tonight.
He missed Thursday’s game
with a slight concussion. No
word whether rookie forward
Brett Ritchie will play
tonight. He was assessed a
five-minute boarding penalty
and automatic game
misconduct in the third
period of the game with
Plymouth.
The league office reviews
all major penalties.
Forward Mirolsav Preisinger
left the Plymouth game in
the second period after
blocking a shot with his
right hand while killing a
penalty. He did not return.
X-rays revealed no broken
bones, but he is listed as
doubtful for tonight.
Sarnia completes the weekend
Sunday night at Sault Ste.
Marie.
Sarnia’s record is
13-17-1-1.
