Canie Leads Point Atoms to a 5-2 Victory
The Point Edward Blackhawk
Atom hockey team traveled to Strathroy to play the
Rockets in Lambton-Middlesex league action and Kaeden
Canie led the Blackhawks with four goals in their 5-2
win.
The start of the game had
both teams feeling out each other since this was the
first meeting for these teams. Both teams defense
wouldn’t allow either team to set-up any plays to get a
good scoring chance. In the second half of the period,
the Rockets hit the board first when they caught the
Point defense pinching in to make it a 1-0 game. This
seemed to spark the Hawks and they moved to the attack.
All the hard worked finally paid off when Canie got his
first of four goals when the Rockets couldn’t clear the
puck from in front of their net to make it a 1-1 game
late in the period.
The Hawks continued to put a
lot of pressure on the Rockets in the second period but
Strathroy was able to keep the Point away from the net
and eliminate scoring off a rebound. Mid-way through the
period, Canie scored with a deflection off a Rockets
defensemen to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead. The Hawks
seemed to find their game and the defense wouldn’t let
Strathroy past their blue line, which allowed them to
hold a 2-1 lead into the third.
A pep talk by their coach
revived the Rockets by increasing their pressure on the
Blackhawks. Bailey Reinders made some awesome saves to
prevent the Rockets from tying the game. Caley took
advantage of Strathroy added pressure, which allowed him
to get a breakaway and he made it count by putting the
puck in the top right hand corner on the Strathroy
goaltender. Play was end to end and the Rockets were
able to keep the game close when they scored to make it
3-2 mid-way through the period. The Point put it out of
reach near the end of the period when Canie scored two
more goals to make it 5-2 to end the game.
The Hawks play have another
two game weekend when they play Ilderton(Blue) at 5pm in
the Point on Saturday November 7th and then
play in Strathroy at 3pm on Sunday November 4th.
