Point Edward Blackhawk Atoms
Kickoff A New Season.
The Point Edward Blackhawk
Atom hockey team kicked-off their Lambton-Middlesex
League season versus the South Huron Sabres and took
away a 2-2 tie to start the season.
Both teams started their
season in a defensive mode and they didn’t take too many
chances. Both teams had some good opportunities in the
first period but the defense and both goalies did an
excellent job keeping the rebound opportunities to a
minimum. South Huron had a strong push at the end of the
period but Reinders came up big to keep the period at
0-0.
As the second period
progressed both teams started to find their legs and
scoring opportunities began to increase. The constant
pressure from the Point saw them wear down the Sabres
defense to hit the scoreboard first midway through the
period as Laframboise & Potvin help get Noah Best a
clear shot from the face-off circle to beat the Sabres
goalie. Action was end to end for the remainder of the
period as it ended 1-0 for the Point.
The third period saw the
Sabres catch the Hawks off guard as they tied the game
at 1-1, 30 seconds into the period. The Hawks continued
to pressure South Huron digging hard for the puck and
the pressured paid off when Garrett Kennedy slammed in a
rebound with assists going to Caley and Young. The South
Huron team didn’t let up and their persistence paid off
when late in the period they where able to bang in a
rebound the Hawks couldn’t clear and the game ended 2-2.
