Start 2010 in Winning Style

The Point Edward Atom Blackhawks hosted the Lucan Shamrocks in Lambton–Middlesex league action and captured a convincing 6-1 win to start off 2010.

These two teams first meeting ended in a tie and both had something to prove. The first period saw both teams coming out aggressively for the puck but neither team could get a rhythm going early to set up a goal. Late in the period with the Hawks shorthanded,  Garrett  Kennedy  intercepted  a  pass to take  it down  the ice to  make  it 1-0 for the Point to end the period.

Action in the second followed the play in the first as neither team was able to make anything happen. As the period grew older, Tyra Ballantyne made a zone clearing pass to an opened Nathan Edlington who took it down the ice to make it 2-0. The Shamrocks began losing their aggressiveness as the period drew to a close and the period ended 2-0.

The third period saw the Hawks take advantage of a weary Lucan team. In a front of the net scramble, the Shamrocks got one on the board by a screened Bailey Reinders to make it 2-1. The Point continued to play their game and shortly thereafter the Point’s Noah  Young made a precision pass to Garrett Kennedy who slammed it between the pipes to  extend the Hawks lead back to two goals. Minutes later the Hawks were able to take  a  three goal lead when  Edlington set-up Cunningham who got his first of the season to  make it 4-1.  Before the game hit the buzzer, Laframboise and  Canie would add their goals to end the game 6-1 and begin the year with a win.
