Point Atoms Play Doubleheader And
Come Away With 4 Points
The Point Edward Atoms
played a double header recently and came away with four
well earned points. The first game was played against
the Mount Brydges Cougars and the second game was at
home in the evening against the Lambton Shores
Predators.
Hawks attack Cougars to get
a 3-0 win
Two of the top teams in the
league hit the ice to try to advance themselves in the
standings. Both teams came out defensively to feel each
other out. The Point took the lead mid-way through the
first when the Cougars couldn’t clear the puck during a
scramble in front of the net. Bryce Potvin got his first
of the year to make it 1-0.
Defense was the name of the
game as both teams pushed any offensive rushes to the
boards to prevent any good scoring opportunities. Early
in the second period the Cougars got into penalty
trouble but the Point couldn’t capitalize to extend
their lead. Reinders played a strong game between the
pipes to keep the lead in the hands of the Point. Play
was end to end for the entire period and the game
remained at 1-0 in favour of the Hawks.
The third was no different
than the first two periods as both teams knew they had a
chance to win the game. Not till the middle of the
period, were the Hawks able to extend their lead when
the Cougars lost their focus and Nathan Edlington scored
off a Haagsma pass to make it 2-0. The Cougars pulled
their goalie with the last minute to play and Noah Best
ended their hopes to end the game at 3-0.

Home Crowd Watches Scoring
Frenzy
After coming off a hard
fought 3-0 win earlier in the day, the Hawks started
their battle with the Lambton Shores Predators on their
heals. Thirty seconds into the period, the Predators
made it 1-0 which seemed to wake up the Hawks. Not until
the middle of the period, could the Hawks tie the game
when Noah Best made a cross ice pass to Kaeden Canie to
make it 1-1. As the period grew to a close the Point
team seemed to be gaining momentum.
The second period saw the
Blackhawks hit the score board five times with Edlington,
Caley, Best, Terpstra and Canie all getting goals to
extend the Hawks lead to 6-1. The defensive teams of
Caley/Ballantyne, Laframboise/Molloy and
Boccanfuso/Cunningham played another strong game in
front of a hot Reinders to keep the Predators off the
board for the period.
The third period saw the
Hawks play more of a defensive game. Not until mid-way
through the period were the Predators able to close the
gap to 6-2 but shortly thereafter and within a one
minute span, the Predators lost their composure and
Caley and Terpstra were able to get their second goals
of the game to make it 8-2. Best put his second of the
game late in the period to end the game 9-2
The Blackhawks have another
two game weekend when they travel to Lucan on Saturday
December 12th and then travel to Parkhill on
Sunday for a 9am game.
