Fingal, ON
- The Alvinston Indians travelled to Fingal on
Tuesday evening for game 1 of their best three out
of five St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League
Championship series.
The game
pitted St. Thomas starter Ryan Cummings against
Alvinston pitcher Brad Young, and both pitchers were
dominant in the early going, allowing minimal hits.
In the top
of the third, Alvinston struck first when Joe Triest
singled, advanced to second on a sac bunt by Jamie
Shields, and then Triest scored on a Chris Drew RBI
single. In the fourth inning, Alvinston added
another big run, when Jeff Ingram hit a solo homerun
to lead off the inning. With two out, Andy Triest
reached base via a bunt single, stole second base,
advanced to third via a pass ball, and scored when
Joe Triest beat the throw to first on a broken play,
for an all-important 3 run lead.
Alvinston
was quiet the rest of the way, but more importantly
so were the Storm batters, as Young tossed a 4
hitter in the game for the Indians, to earn the 3-0
shutout win, fanning 7 Storm swingers in the
process.
Next game
is Thursday evening in Alvinston beginning at 8pm.
