London, ON – In his first game as Sarnia
Legionnaire, Nathan Mater scored a powerplay goal at
11:47 in the first period, in what would be the
eventual game winner, to help snap the Legionnaires
three game losing streak in a 3-1 victory over the
London Nationals.
Mater, who
was a part of the Sarnia Sting and sent down from
the Jr. A club made an immediate impact, as the
Legionnaires went 2 for 10 on the powerplay.
Sarnia
lead after the first period as Brent Sauve scored
his 4th of the year to give the Legionnaires a 1-0
lead. London would tie it back up within 47 seconds
as the Legionnaires went on the penalty kill, as
Steven Taylor earned the powerplay goal for the
Nationals.
But
Mater's first goal of the season for the
Legionnaires would come just under two minutes
later, as the Nationals gave Sarnia 10 powerplay
chances in the game.
No scoring
would occur in the second, but in the third Tyler
Cicchini would score on the powerplay with under two
minutes left to play to ice the game for the
Legionnaires, earning their second win of the
season.
Sarnia has
remained disciplined in recent games, only giving
London 5 powerplay chances in the game.
Kyle
Washer earned his second victory of the season with
a 21 save performance while Sauve added an assist on
Mater's goal for a two point night.
Sarnia has
a quick turn around as they return home Thursday
night to take on Chatham.
