London, ON – The Lambton Junior Sting Minor PeeWee
AAA participated in the London Knights Early Bird
Tournament over the past weekend. The Sting would
put in a solid effort on the weekend, winning 2
games and losing 2 close games by 1 goal margins.
On Friday morning the Sting would face the Whitby
Wildcats in their 1st game of the weekend and win a
close game by a final score of 2 – 1. Lambton would
capitalize on a 4 minute power play in the first
period as Jordan Hurtubise would fire home a shot
from the point assisted by Dante Fuoco and Joe
Correia. Cameron Adam would score again on the tail
end of the same power play assisted by Alec Trusler
and Josh Vale to give the Sting a 2 goal lead. The
Sting would continue to press the play but would be
unable to extend their lead. Whitby would score a
goal in the 3rd period to make the game close, but
the Sting would play a solid defensive game the rest
of the way to protect the lead and win by a final
score of 2 – 1.
In the
afternoon, the Sting would be matched up with a
familiar opponent from their league division, the
Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs. The Sting would jump out to
a 3 – 0 lead in this game with goals from Lucas
Knowles assisted by Gage Langford and Alec Trusler,
Cameron Adam assisted by Josh Vale and Jake Vince
and Joe Correia assisted by Jake Vince and Josh
Vale. Elgin would narrow the lead to 3 – 1 but the
Sting would strike back quickly on a breakaway goal
by Dante Fuoco assisted Joe Correia and Cameron
Rombouts. Unfortunately, the Sting would fall in to
penalty trouble and Elgin would score 2 late 2nd
period goals to narrow the lead to 4 – 3 heading
into the 3rd period. Elgin would score 2 3rd period
goals to win by a final score of 5 -4.
On
Saturday morning, the Sting would play the Quinte
Red Devils and despite outplaying their opponent for
the majority of the game, would lose by a final
score of 3 – 2. The Sting would hold a 2 – 1 lead
late in the 3rd period with goals being scored by
Cameron Rombouts from Nolan Farr and Dante Fuoco
from Jordan Hurtubise. With approximately 5:00 left
in the 3rd period the Sting would be called for a
questionable 4 minute penalty and then another
questionable 2 minute call. Quinte would be able to
capitalize on the power play with 2 goals and win by
a final score of 3 -2.
On
Saturday afternoon, Lambton would put in a strong
effort in winning their final game of the tournament
by a score of 7 – 2 against the South Central
Coyotes. The Sting were a little flat in the 1st
period but would slowly take control of the game in
the 2nd period and put the game away with some late
3rd period goals. Matthew Torti would lead the
offensive charge in this game with 3 goals, Theo
Crombeen would add 1 goal and 2 assists, Jake Vince
would pick up 1 goal and 1 assist, Nolan Farr and
Gage Langford would score 1 goal each. Lucas Knowles
would add 3 assists, Tristan Haagsma, Cameron
Rombouts and Cameron Adam 2 assists each and Alec
Trusler and Joey Ferrera each 1 assist.
