Kingsville, ON
– Jeff Schroeter's two goal second period gave
him the hat-trick in the game, as the Mooretown
Flags let their offence unleash on the Kingsville
Comets Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Jr. C hockey,
winning 8-2.
Schroeter's first goal was the second Flags goal of
the first period after Aaron Schieman opened the
scoring 1:53 into the period. Kingsville's Mike
Pietraszko tied the game at 1-1 before the Flags
took over the lead again to lead 2-1 after the
first.
In the
second, Kingsville got the game tied up quickly when
Justin Parker scored on the powerplay. It would be
the last goal for the Comets as Mooretown scored six
unanswered goals to finish out the game.
Spencer
Bronzi scored shorthanded to return the lead back to
Mooretown, followed by two goals by Schroeter's to
give the Flags a 5-2 lead after the second.
In the
third Michael Gray would score on the powerplay,
while Aaron Schieman and Caden Fleming would also
add single goals in the period to give the Flags a
8-2 victory.
Andrew
Ganter got the start for the Flags earning his
second win in a row while making 31 saves in the
victory. Mooretown put 35 shots on goal in the game.
Head Coach
Bruce Aberhart said after the Flags first win on
Saturday that getting more offence would be
something the Flags would need to continue to work
on in the coming games. Mooretown has scored 13
goals in their two goal win streak.
Mooretown
is now 2-2-0 to start the season with both wins
coming this week after starting slow with two
losses.
Mooretown
will next take on Belle River on the road Friday,
September 30th, before returning home to
Wallaceburg. The Flags defeated Wallaceburg twice in
preseason, and lost once to Belle River to open the
season.
