The Alvinston Indians hosted the Shedden Mission in
game 3 of their semi-final series, in front of a
strong crowd. The winner would advance to the league
finals.
The
Indians sent game 1 pitcher, Kyle Crawford to the
mound to attempt to redeem himself with a strong
game 3. He just that, dominating from start to
finish en route to a 3 hitter, with 4 walks, and 1
earned run in the game, a solo homerun by Rob Burns
for Shedden.
The
Indians set the tone in the opening inning, when
they exploded out of the gates for 3 runs.
Consecutive singles by Joe Triest, Jamie Shields,
and Chris Drew loaded the bases, before Triest was
retired at home when Ryan Chapman reached base via a
fielder's choice. They finally counted their first
run on an RBI single by Brad Young, which scored
Shields for the opening run. Drew then scored via a
pass ball making it 2-0, and Chapman counted on a
sacrifice fly by Jeff Ingram, making it 3-0.
In the
third inning, after Rob Burns made it 3-1 on a solo
home run off Crawford, the Indians replied to tie
the inning, when they scored a run of their own.
Chapman doubled and scored on a RBI double by Young,
making it 4-1, and returning the momentum in
Alvinston's favour.
In the
fourth, Alvinston went back to work, when Eric Hyatt
singled for the second time in the game, Andy Triest
sacrificed him to second, and then Hyatt scored on a
Jamie Shields hit ball, which was scored an error,
for a 5-1 lead.
With
Crawford pitching a gem, the Indians were in total
control but added one more run in the bottom of the
sixth, when Shields tripled and then scored on an
Shedden errant throw to home, for the Indians sixth
run.
That was it, as the Indians put in a total team
effort to win 6-1 and advance to the league finals,
versus St. Thomas.
