Major Peewee Sting drop second of weekend
andrew brethauer September 18th, 2011

Sarnia, ON – It was a tough weekend for the Lambton Jr. Sting AAA Major Peewee's, as they dropped their second game of the weekend in a 3-1 loss to the Hamilton Reps Sunday afternoon at the RBC Centre.

Despite some early chances in the first, penalties stopped the momentum of the Sting, while the Reps took it to the scoreboard. Zachary McLeod scored fist for Hamilton after the Reps moved the puck quickly in the Sting zone, giving Hamilton the 1-0 lead.

Lambton could not sustain a forecheck in the period, and went into the second trailing by one.

In the second, the forecheck again stalled on the powerplay, as Hamilton keeps Lambton out of their own zone. It would cost the Sting, as Isaac Nurse of the Reps picked up a loose puck at his blue line and with a burst of speed, got by both Sting defence and put a wrist shot passed goalie Ethan Hunt for the 2-0 Hamilton lead with a shorthanded goal.

Lambton would enter the third down two, but would get on the scoreboard after a penalty, giving them the man advantage. Garrett Miller would pick up a loose puck in Hamilton's end and send a wrist shot passed the Reps goalie to cut the lead in half.

But with under four minutes to play, the Reps would put it out of reach as Hamilton would get rebound after rebound, with Bailey Stumpo finally putting the puck passed a downed Lambton goalie for the 3-1 victory.

"We didn't get a lot of pucks to the net," said Head Coach Mike Pageau. "It's a work in progress right now. The effort was there for the most part, just we got to start getting better scoring opportunities."

Hamilton moved the puck up the ice and out of their zone, stopping any Sting forecheck. Pageau commented that they are not a high scoring team, and they will need to get some ugly goals in order to win games.

Lambton started the season with a 3-1 win over Cambridge, but dropped their Saturday game to Sun County, bringing their record to 1-2-0 on the season.

"Yesterday was a game I was happy with," said Pageau. "I'm happy right now with the way the team is going. We just got to start putting some wins together."

The Major Peewee's are off until October 1st when they face Huron Perth.
