Predators get back to winning ways at home
andrew brethauer September 17th, 2011

Lambton Shores, ON – They may need extra time to pick up the extra point, but the Lambton Shores Predators have opened the 2011-12 season with two victories on home ice, after a 6-5 win over the Strathroy Rockets in Greater Ontario Jr. B hockey Saturday night.

Strathroy took the original lead in the game, as Jacob Baribeau started the game off with his second of the season to give the Rockets a 1-0 lead.

It would take most of the first period for the Predators to respond, but Adam Arseneault would pick up his first of the season with under a minute remaining to tie the game at 1-1 after the first peirod.

In the second, Strathroy took over the scoreboard despite putting the same amount of shots on net as the Predators did. Davis Brown, the Sarnia Sting's third round draft pick scored 1:15 into the second period. Just over a minute later Tyler Coleman made it a two goal Rocket lead.

The Predators would get a powerplay chance in the middle of the period, and Kyle Brothers would pick up his first of the season to cut the lead back down to one. But Greg Milner would score two minutes later to restore the two goal lead, as the Rockets lead 4-2 after the second.

The Predators came out in the third and dominated the early scoreboard. Brendon Merritt cut the lead to one with his third goal of the season, followed by Brothers getting his second powerplay goal of the night to tie the game at 4-4. Under a minute later, the Predators would take their first lead of the game, as Garrett Heiser scored to make it a 5-4 game.

With the period coming to a close, the Rockets would pull their goalie for the extra attacker. With ten seconds remaining, Greg Milner would beat Brandon Campbell to send the game into overtime.

The last home game needed a shootout for the Predators to earn the victory, but tonight, Adam Arseneault would end it early, scoring 1:53 into the overtime period, giving the Predators their second win of the season.

Campbell made 41 saves in the victory.

Lambton Shores was 2 for 10 on the powerplay, while successfully stopping all 10 attempts the Rockets had on the powerplay.

Lambton Shores is now 2-1-0 to start the season. On Sunday they play St. Marys to finish off the weekend, before heading to London for a game on Wednesday and heading to Sarnia for a game on Thursday.
