Belle River, ON
– The Alvinston Flyers kicked off their 2011-12
Great Lakes Jr. C hockey season in Belle River to
take on the Canadiens. Unfortunately they fell short
in a 5-3 loss.
Alvinston
started the scoring early as Chris Edwards scored 29
seconds into the game to make it 1-0.
But the
lead wouldn't last long and would quickly go to
Belle Rivers favour, as Jordan Taylor tied the game,
and six seconds later Jason Clark put the Canadiens
ahead, as the game opens with three goals in a
minute and a half.
Clint Rose
would tie the game for the Flyers near the end of
the period, making it a 2-2 game after one period.
In the
second, Belle River would again strike quickly, as
Kevin Curridor would score on the powerplay to put
the Canadiens up 3-2. It was the lone goal of the
period which saw an even shot total of 10-10 each.
In the
third Clark would get his second of the game to make
it a two goal game, as he score shorthanded at 6:55.
Alvinston
pressing would get into their own penalty trouble,
but Cody Curts would score a shorthanded goal of his
own with less then five minutes remaining in the
period.
With their
net empty, the Flyers would look to send it into
overtime, but Chris DiNatale would seal it with an
empty net goal, as the Canadiens earn their first
win with a 5-3 victory.
James
Morreau made 36 saves in the loss for Alvinston.
Belle
River will now head to Mooretown to take on the
Flags on Saturday, while Alvinston is off for a week
and resume against Dresden next Friday.
