St. Marys, ON
– One night removed from a nine goal performance by
the Sarnia Legionnaires in their home opener against
LaSalle, Sarnia went back on the road to St. Marys
and suffered their second road loss of the season in
a 6-2 defeat to the Lincolns.
Things
started off bad for the Legionnaires as Sean Consitt
scored 1:15 into the first period to give the
Lincolns the early lead. Two minutes later, David
Sproat would make it 2-0 St. Marys, as Sarnia could
only get 8 shots on net and not score on any of the
attempts.
In the
second period, it took 12 seconds for Sarnia to get
back into the game, as Brent Sauve scored his third
of the season to cut the lead in half.
It would
take 16 minutes for another goal to cross the line,
and the Legionnaires did it while on the shorthand.
Jason Teschke scored his second of the season to tie
the game at 2-2. But two minutes later, penalty
trouble would finally catch up the Legionnaires as
Mitch McIntosh made it 3-2 St. Marys at the end of
the second.
Sarnia was
again outshot 16-8 in the period.
In the
third, it was all St. Marys, as the Lincolns scored
three in the period. Mike Mandarelli and Reid Oliver
made it 5-2 for the Lincolns, while Jonathan Rizzo
added a powerplay goal, as St. Marys topped Sarnia
6-2.
Sarnia was
0 for 4 on the powerplay, but took seven penalties
and allowed two powerplay goals.
Sean
Parker got the start in net tonight and faced 46
shots, stopping 40 of them in the loss.
Sarnia is
now 1-2-0 on the season, with both losses coming on
the road. Sarnia has been outscored on the road 9-3
in the two games.
The
Legionnaires will return home on Thursday, as they
welcome the Lambton Shores Predators to the Sarnia
Arena for the first Lambton County match up of the
season.
