Final play produces tie in peewee football
andrew brethauer September 14th, 2011

Sarnia, ON – On a rainy night at Norm Perry Park, SMAA PeeWee football action continued, as the Force took on the Avengers Wednesday.

The Force got off to a quick start, as on their first possession of the game, Jackson Smiley ran to the outside and picked up 52 yards on route to the endzone, as the Force took the early 7-0 lead. But on their first play of their first possession, Avengers running back Gabe Barnes picked up 67 yards on an outside run for the score, but the Avengers would miss the convert and the Force would still lead 7-6.

On their next possession the Force would move the ball down field on small runs, getting inside the 20 yard line. From there Kurtis Hill would hit the outside and score another major, putting the Force up 14-6 at the half.

The Avengers would get right back into the hunt, as Barnes again would pick up big yards, as he scampers 65 yards for the touchdown to bring it to within one.

With the Force moving down field, the Avengers would pick up the games first stop on defence, forcing a fumble to regain possession. But the Force would equally prevent the Avengers from picking up yards, retaking the ball inside the 20 yard line. But time would expire before the Force could score, and they went into the half leading 14-13.

Neither team could score in a defensive battle 3rd quarter, which left the 4th quarter for the Avengers to get back into the game. But the Force would strike first, as Smiley again on a sweep would find the endzone, putting the Force up 20-13 after the missed convert.

With the game coming to a close, and rain making the field hard to run, the Avengers would be down to their last play to try and tie it up. And like had done all game, Barnes would again break mulitple tackles on his way to a 56 yard touchdown run with no time left on the clock. Barnes would then punch in the convert to tie the game at 20-20, ending it in a draw.
