Sarnia, ON
– Jamie Campbell had three touchdown runs and a
touchdown throw, as the Toro's def eated
the Mammoths 38-7 in SMAA Bantam football action
Monday night.
The Toro's
fumbled on their first possession, but their defence
came up with a big 4th down stop to send the offence
back onto the field, where Campbell ran for 25 yards
on a quarterback keeper for the games first score to
lead 7-0 after the first quarter.
In the
second quarter, the Toro defence would again force a
4th down shutdown of the Mammoth offence, and the
offence would again take the field. Campbell would
set up a touchdown with a 15 yard run, followed by
Myles Mclean rushing in from the one yard line to
make it a 14-0 game.
Campbell
would add his second rushing touchdown off the half
with another QB keeper, but Josh Kitna would bust
through the line and stop the extra point, making it
a 20-0 game. The Mammoth offence did not get a first
down in the half.
In
the second half, Campbell would try and connect with
Drew Bradshaw on a throw, and they would connect
with a 35 yard touchdown pass, giving the Toro's a
26-0 lead in the third.
The
Mammoths would begin to move down the field, as
Michael Gadd would catch a pass for 35 yards. But
the offence would stall 20 yards away from the
endzone, and the Toro's would take back over. But on
the following drive, Rory Pickle would pick up a
fumble and rush it back down to the Toro 10 yard
line. Jacob Hill would eventually bust it into the
endzone, making it a 26-7 game.
But the
Toro offence was running full stride, as Ricky
Lapish would run up the middle for a 20 yard
touchdown, while Campbell would scamper for another
40 yard touchdown run, giving the Toro's a 38-7
victory.
The Toro's
will take on the Bears on Saturday, while the
Mammoths will take on the Tiger Sharks following
that game.
