Ottawa, ON
– The Lambton Jr Sting Major Bantams started off
their season when they travelled to our Nation’s
capital to compete in the Ottawa Senators AAA
Shootout.
The first game was against the Peterborough Petes.
Austin Hewton gave the Sting a quick lead with Tim
Kaldeway and Dillon Saunders picking up the assists.
The Petes would tie it up before the first period
ended. The Petes would go ahead mid way through the
second period but Lambton would tie it up on a goal
from Sam McCormack on the Powerplay. Hewton picked
up the assist. Late in the 3rd period, the Petes
would again regain the lead, but with less than a
minute remaining in the game, Kaldeway would tie it
up on a pass from McCormack. The game would end as a
3-3 tie. Cole Lauzon had the tie in the net. Player
of the game was Sam McCormack.
Lambton would then meet up with North Central
Predators. The scoring was back and forth throughout
the game but with just over a minute left in the
third. Brett Corrigan would score the game winner
from Cory Burr. Brendan Trottier opened the scoring
with Corrigan getting the assist. Mathew Gough would
be next to put one in the net from Josh Reda and
Alec Segers. Jake Mott also scored from Trottier and
Corrigan. This game was highlighted with a penalty
shot call. Brendan Trottier made no mistake when
called upon. Lambton would win 5-4. Travis Moore had
the win in net for the Sting. Player of the game was
Brett Corrigan.
The Sting
would meet up with the Ottawa Valley Titans. Ottawa
was up 3-0 at the end of the first period. Kaldeway
made it 3-1 in the second. Corrigan picked up the
only assist. Unfortunately the Sting ran in to some
penalty trouble and could not dig themselves out of
the deficit. Ottawa scored twice more in the third
to hand Lambton their first loss of the tournament
5-1. Player of the game was Dylan Carroll.
The Sting
would then meet the host team and eventual
tournament champs. The Ottawa Senators handed the
Sting a 5-0 loss. Player of the game was Josh Reda.
The Sting
will practice hard this week and hope to rebound
with their first league games on the weekend. They
will travel to meet the Huron Perth Lakers and the
Chatham Cyclones.
