Predators win home opener
andrew brethauer September 10th, 2011

Forest, ON – Ten months ago, the Lambton Shores Predators defeated the LaSalle Vipers 8-4. That was on November 10th, 2010. 304 days later, and the Predators get their next victory against the same Vipers, this time a 5-4 shootout victory to give the Predators their first win of the season.

"This was a great win for our team tonight," said Head Coach Mark Davis, who picked up his first win as the Predators new coach. "All four lines played well. [Brandon] Campbell was outstanding."

Lambton Shores jumped out to the early 1-0 lead after Sam Jasmin scored 5:15 into the first period. But the Vipers would get the equalizer, as Dylan Seguin made it a 1-1 guy midway through the first period. LaSalle would outshoot the Predators 15-13 in the period, but Campbell would not let any others get through.

In the second period, the Vipers would strike after the midway mark, as Matt Beaudoin put the Vipers ahead 2-1. Just over two minutes later Eric Noel would give LaSalle a two goal lead with his first of the season. But Lambton Shores would cut the lead in half, as Ferdinando Colella would score to make it a 3-2 game. LaSalle put 17 shots on net in the period, as Campbell had 29 saves through two periods.

In the third, the Predators wasted no time getting the game all square, as Brendon Merritt make it a 3-3 game 1:33 into the period.

Unfortunately for the Predators, Seguin would score his second of the game, giving the Vipers the lead back with under five minutes to play. Beaudoin would get called for high sticking, and with under two minutes to play, Kyler Keating would score on the powerplay, once again equaling the game at 4-4.

Overtime would solve nothing and shootout was needed. Kyle Brothers found the back of the net on the first shot, and after Ryan Speers missed for the Vipers, Cody Trowell finished the game, scoring the Predators second shootout goal to lead 2-0, and take the victory 5-4.

Brandon Campbell made 42 saves in the victory for the Predators.

The Predators start the season 1-0, and will next travel to Chatham on Thursday to take on the Maroons.
