Alvinston, ON – The Alvinston Indians returned home
on Tuesday night, for game 2 of their best of 5
final series versus the St. Thomas Storm. Once again
a good crowd was on hand to enjoy the game, with the
game featuring starters Ryan Cummings for St.
Thomas, and Kyle Crawford for Alvinston.
After Alvinston escaped the top of the first
allowing no runs with St. Thomas having threatened,
Joe Triest started them off right in the bottom half
of the first inning, when he hit a solo homerun to
lead off the game, for an early 1-0 lead for
Alvinston. However, in the top of the second, St.
Thomas returned the favour, counting their first run
when Crocker walked, was sacrificed to second and
then tied the game on a flyout by Gould. Crawford
then settled in a bit for Alvinston, as did Cummings
for St. Thomas, and the game stayed at 1-1 until the
bottom of the sixth, when Alvinston finally got busy
with the bats, and capitalized on their opportunity.
With one out, Chapman singled, and he promptly
scored the go ahead run, on an RBI triple that was
smacked down the line by Brad Young. Jeff Ingram was
then intentionally walked, to put runners on first
and third with one out. The second out was then
recorded for St. Thomas on a strikeout, and pinch
hitter Doug Charlton came to the plate for
Alvinston, and delivered in the clutch, roping a
ball at the second baseman that he was unable to
handle, scoring Young from third base for a 3-1
lead. Ingram was now at third, and Stocking was
reentered for Charlton at first, and Andy Triest
came to the plate and delivered as well. Triest took
an 0-2 pitch through the hole on the second base
side, singling to score Ingram. Again, runners were
at third and first, now with Joe Triest up to bat,
and Triest was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Stocking then scored on a wild pitch, and then St.
Thomas was able to get the final out, but not before
Alvinston counted 4 runs, and owned a 5-1 lead.
Brad Young had came in in the sixth for Crawford,
recording three outs, and did the same in the
seventh, allowing the first hit of the game to St.
Thomas, but not allowing any damage, as Alvinston
won by the final score of 5-1. Game 3 goes Tuesday
in Fingal at 8:00pm.
Young earned the win for Alvinston in two innings of
relief allowing only the one hit, and he recorded
one strikeout. He was also a difference maker at the
dish for Alvinston, going 3/3 for Alvinston with a
single, double, and triple, a run scored, and the
game winning hit and RBI. Crawford did well as the
starter for Alvinston as well, going 5 innings,
allowing no hits, and 4 walks, while striking out 5.
