Twenty-five
swimmers from the Sarnia Y Rapids Swim
Team attended the first swim meet of the
St. Clair Erie Aquatic League (SEAL)
season in Aylmer on October 23.
Four team
members swam in the 7-and-under age
category. Taylor Marut, 7, finished 6th
in the 25M backstroke. In their first
meet as part of the team, McKenna Brown,
7, and Allie Rawson, 6, had top 10
finishes. Also swimming was Simone
Roland, 6.
Of the two
8-year-olds from the Sarnia Y Rapids,
Hayden Scott came 1st in the
25M butterfly, 2nd in the 50M
freestyle, 4th in the 25M
backstroke, and 5th in the
25M breaststroke. Ayrianna Batson took
more than 10 seconds off her time from
last season.
There were
seven 9-year-olds from the team. Jack
Biggar placed 2nd in the 50M
freestyle, 3rd in the 25M
breaststroke and 4th in the
25M butterfly. Ciara Brown finished 5th
in the 25M backstroke and 6th
in the 25M butterfly. Mckenna Jackson
came 6th in the 50M
freestyle. Kaiden Rawson earned a 1st-place
finish in the 25M breaststroke, 4th
in the 25M backstroke and 5th
in the 50M freestyle. Erin Lacey and
Ella Roland both improved their times
over last season. It was the first meet
as a Rapids swimmer for Evelyn Chambers.
Among the
four 10-year-olds from Sarnia, Nadine
Osmon placed 2nd in the 100M
freestyle, 5th in the 50M
butterfly and 6th in the 50M
backstroke. Also swimming were Abby
Allardyce, Rylynn Haney and Myléna
Vallée.
Five
11-year-old team members participated.
Connor Phipps came 5th in the
50M butterfly and 50M backstroke and 6th
in the 100M freestyle. Hannah Lacey had
three top 10 finishes. Samantha Lefebvre
and Trista Walsh improved their times
over last season. It was Rachel Dalton’s
first meet in the SEAL league.
Twelve-year-old Zoe Little was joined by
13-year-olds Magaidh Crossland, who
placed in the top 20 in all her events,
and Madison McKinlay, who finished in
the top 10 in both the 100M and 200M
freestyle.

Rapids 1 swimmers are coached by Sue
Athanasopoulos. This group’s next meet
is in Chatham on November 20.
