Point
Edwards Bantam Blackhawks opened their
regular season with a tough penalty
ridden battle against Mt Brydges to
sneak out a 1-1 tie to start their
Lambton-Middlesex league season.
The Hawks began their season in the
penalty box early when they got two
early penalties to start the game
shorthanded. Their penalty kill played
well to keep the Cougars off the score
board. Most of the period saw play back
and forth between the two ends with
neither team getting any good scoring
chances with defense playing a big role.
The second period saw Mt Brydges take an
early 1-0 lead during a scramble in
front of the Hawk’s net. Shortly
thereafter, the Point got into penalty
trouble and had to play two men short
for a minute as the period neared the
midway point but were able to fend off
the Cougars charge with another great
penalty kill. Mt Brydges saw themselves
get into penalty trouble during the
second half of the period but the Hawks
were unable to capitalize on the
opportunity and the period ended 1-0 for
the Cougars.
The third period saw the Hawks put more
pressure on the Cougars and the pressure
paid off midway through the period when
Smith scored to tie the game at 1-1 with
assists going to Waddell and Kootstra.
The Hawks hit the penalty box two more
times before the game ended in a 1-1
tie.
