sarniasports October 28th, 2011

Point Edwards PeeWee Blackhawks opened their regular season with a 5-2 victory over Strathroy(Red) to start their Lambton-Middlesex league season.

Catching the Rockets a bit off-guard, the Hawks started the scoring for the season one minute into the period when Best & Potvin set up Smith to make it 1-0. The Rockets settled in but the Hawks continued their pressure. Mid-way through the period the Point got into penalty trouble but the Rockets were unable to score. As the period came to a close Young dumped the puck into the Strathroy zone with Best picking it up and scoring to end the period 2-0.

The second saw the Point extend their lead to 3-0 early in the period but the Rockets retaliated one minute later with one of their own to keep it close. At the periods midway point, the Rockets got into penalty trouble and the Hawks jumped all over the opportunity with Jackson setting up Lamore to make it 4-1. Strathroy couldn’t regain their composure and the Hawks added one more from Kennedy to go into the third with a 5-1 lead.

The third period saw the Point get three penalties but their penalty kill kept the Rockets off the board. As the game came to a close, the Rockets made one last rush to get a goal and end the game 5-2 in favour of the Point.
