In Greater
Ontario Junior Hockey League action the
Western Conference Sarnia Legionnaires
walked all over the Golden Horseshoe
Conference Welland Canadians in a double
digit 12 - 0 final.
Scoring began at the 1:16 mark in the first
period with Derek D'Andrea scoring the first
goal and the team never looked back.
Anthony Donati scored the second goal with
just :01 second left on the clock in the
first period to take a 2 - 0 lead after one
period of play.
Shawn Waldie opened the scoring in the
second with just :38 seconds off the clock
and the team continued on a scoring frenzy
and added five more goals to end the second
up 8 - 0. Other goal scorers in the
second period were Brent Sauve, Chad VanEyk,
Jason Teschke, Daniel Nikandrov and Tanner
Ferguson.
Third period action saw Jesse Drydak scoring
a pair and Jason Teschke scoring his second
of the night and Evan Dixon rounding off the
scoring with the only powerplay goal.
Total shots on
goal for Sarnia was 42 shots Welland had 18.
Kyle Washer earned the shutout win. The
Legionnaires now have a 4 game winning
streak, 3 of which have been on the road.
After 9 games played they are now 5 and 4 in
the early season.
The
Legionnaires are back at home on Thursday
October 13th when they host the Strathroy
Rockets. Game time is at 7:10 pm at
the Sarnia Arena.
