LaSalle, ON – The streak is up to nine, but it was
the second game in a row the Sarnia Legionnaires
needed overtime in order to secure the extra point,
as Sarnia defeated the LaSalle Vipers 3-2 Wednesday
night on the road.
LaSalle
had the first period lead off a goal by Austin Buit
in the first five minutes of the period. But in the
second period, Anthony Donati would score
shorthanded to tie the game at 1-1. But in a twist
of fate, the Vipers themselves would reply with a
shorthanded goal of their own, retaking the lead 2-1
after two periods of play.
In the
third, the Legionnaires would tie things back at
2-2, as Donati would get his second of the game on
the powerplay, in what would be the goal that would
send the game into overtime.
In
overtime, it only took 1:28 for the Legionnaires to
continue their streak, as Nathan Mater would end it
for the game winner.
Sean
Parker got the start and victory for the
Legionnaires making 34 saves.
With the
victory, Sarnia moves into a three way tie with St.
Thomas and St. Marys for second place with 20
points, but hold more victorys then St. Marys and
less games then St. Thomas, putting Sarnia in
second. Sarnia is only three points back Leamington,
and has three games to make up on the Flyers.
Sarnia
returns home on Thursday and take on St. Thomas.
