Sarnia, ON – With two goals from Reid Boucher in the
third period, the Sarnia Sting erased a 3-1 deficit
against the Belleville Bulls, but ended up falling
in a shootout to only get the single point.
It would
be the second loss of the weekend for the Sting, who
lost Thursday night to Sault St. Marie and won
Friday night in Kitchener, giving them a 1-1-1
record over the weekend.
Adam
Payerl started the scoring for the Bulls with his
third of the season, scoring the only goal of the
period as the Sting were outshot 12-5.
In the
second, Nail Yakupov would pick up his ninth of the
year tying the game 1-1 midway through the second.
In the
third, Belleville would jump out to a 3-1 lead
within the first three minutes. Jordan Subban would
score on the powerplay 1:13 into the period,
followed by Payerl with his second of the game two
minutes later to give the Bulls the lead.
But
Boucher, the Sting's leading goal scorer would knot
the game at 3-3, after scoring a mid period
powerplay goal, and tying it with 1:28 left to play,
sending the game into overtime.
The game
would need shootout where Yakupov would score
on his first shot, but Boucher and Craig Hottot
would both be stopped, leaving it open for Brendan
Gaunce to keep the shootout alive, which he did with
his goal. Subban would end it, as neither Brett
Ritchie or Charles Sarault could score to keep the
shootout going.
Brandon
Hope had the start for Sarnia, stopping 30 saves in
the loss. It is the second time in two tries this
season the Sting have lost in a shootout, both of
which happened on home hice.
Yakupov
ended the night with a goal and two assists, while
Alex Basso added two helpers as well.
Sarnia
will be on the road next week, traveling to Sault
Ste. Marie on Wednesday, Saginaw on Saturday and on
London on Sunday.
