Sarnia, ON – It is mid-October and the race for
playoff spots is heating up in LSSAA high school
sports.
But also
on Tuesday, the finals for the Junior boys and girls
soccer finals were also decided, as four semi-final
matches were player.
In boys
action, St. Christopher's defeated the Northern
Vikings 5-0 while North Lambton's David VandenHuevel
scored the Eagles only goal in a 1-0 shutout over
LCCVI.
In girls
action, Emily Sparham had the single goal for
Northern, as the Vikings shutout North Lambton 1-0.
In the other semi-final, St. Chris had two goals
from Maria Vani, and single goals from Sterling
Crawford and Tina Vani, as the Cyclones defeated
LCCVI 4-1. Taylor Parnham had the single goal for
the Lancers.
Both
finals go Thursday at St. Chris. The girls game is
at 2:30 and marks the fourth time in five years
Northern and St. Chris have played in the final. The
boys game will follow at 4:30.
Junior
Boys Volleyball
There is
still a three way tie for first in junior boys
volleyball as St. Francois, St. Clair and St. Chris
each won their respected games Tuesday, moving their
record to 8-1.
St.
Francois defeated St. Patrick's 3-0, while St. Chris
also won three straight sets with a 3-0 win over
LCCVI. St. Clair also defeated SCITS 3-0.
St. Clair
still holds the tiebreaker with more set wins at 21,
while St. Chris and St. Francois each have 20. St.
Clair's only loss is to St. Chris, while St. Chris
loss to St. Francois, whom los to St. Clair. St.
Clair and St. Francois meet for their second match
at St. Clair on Thursday.
North
Lambton currently holds the final playoff spot with
a 4-5 record, but is followed closely by Northern
and SCITS with 3-6 records.
Senior Boys Volleyball
In senior
volleyball, Northern defeated North Lambton 3-0,
with 25-13, 25-12, 25-17 set victories. St. Chris
defeated LCCVI 2-1 with 25-22, 25-22 set wins and a
25-22 set loss. Northern remains undefeated at 6-0,
and St. Chris moves to 4-2.
