Alvinston, ON – The Alvinston Flyers picked up their
sixth win of the season with a 7-4 victory over the
Kingsville Comets Sunday night.
The Flyers
held a three goal lead on the Comets to open the
game into the second period. Brett Dalton and Chris
Edwards each had goals in the first period for the
Flyers, while Cody Curts added an early second
period goal to make it a 3-0 Alvinston lead.
But just
over a minute later, the Comets would get back into
the game off a Alvinston advantage, as Mark Belanger
scored a shorthanded goal to get Kingsville on the
board. The Comets would get their own powerplay and
again Belanger would find the back of the net for
his second of the game to cut the lead down to one.
Alvinston
would restore their two goal lead, as Edwards got
his second of the game, but before the period could
end Belanger would complete the hat-trick, scoring
with a minute left to make it a one goal game after
two periods of play.
In the
third, the Flyers would push their lead back out to
three goals, as Joe Archer got his first of the
game, while Curts got his second to make it 6-3.
Devin Shannon would add a powerplay goal with
Belanger picking up an assist and his fourth point
of the night, but Curts would also complete his
hat-trick, scoring an empty net goal to seal the
victory 7-4.
James
Morreau made 43 saves for his fifth win of the
season.
Alvinston
will next travel to Essex on Tuesday before
returning home on Friday to play Wallaceburg.
