Goderich, ON – The Petrolia Squires picked up their first win of the season Friday in Goderich, defeating the Pirates 9-3.

The Squires jumped out to the early 2-0 lead in the first three minutes, as  Breydan Belan and Jason McPhail each scored. Goderich would respond on the powerplay to cut the lead in half, as Mike Gillen made it a 2-1 game, but the Squires would restore the two goal first period lead with a goal from Dan Veenema to make it 3-1. But the penalties again would cost Petrolia, as Kyle Provily would make it 3-2 with a powerplay goal.

Scott Hull had the first goal for the Squires and Jason McPhail picked up his second of the game, as did Veenema with a powerplay goal in the middle of the period. The Pirates would get one back as Josh Gaynor would score for the third powerplay goal for Goderich. But the Squires would add one more powerplay goal of their own, as Mike Gardner makes it a 7-3 game after two periods.

In the third, Petrolia would find the back of the net twice more, as Rob Vanwyseberghe make it 8-3, and Scott Hull picked up his second of the game to round out the scroing.
