Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today
announced that Jimmy Appleby of the Baie-Comeau
Drakkar is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for
the week ending October 2. In two starts he recorded
a 2-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of
1.50 and save percentage of .940.
Appleby began the week with a 17-save performance to
beat the Victoriaville Tigres 6-1 on Thursday night.
He followed that up with a 30-save effort on Sunday
where he was named first star of a 6-2 win over the
Acadie-Bathurst Titan extending the Drakkar’s
winning-streak to six games. The Drakkar are
currently in first place in the QMJHL standings with
an 8-1-0-0 record.
Appleby, an 18-year-old from Trois-Rivieres, QC, is
playing in his second QMJHL season and first with
the Drakkar. So far this season he is the top QMJHL
goaltender with a perfect 4-0-0-0 record including
one shutout with a goals-against-average of 1.25 and
save percentage of .951.
Also considered for the award this week was Nathan
Lieuwen of the Kootenay Ice who posted a 1-1-0-0
record with a shutout victory and a
goals-against-average of 1.51 and save percentage of
.940. Matt Murray of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds
went 2-0-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.50
and save percentage of .938.
