London, ON – The Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor Atom MD's
travelled to London to face the Bandits for their
first road game of the season.
The boys
were ready to go and anxious to take some points
from the tough London hockey center. The Black
Bandits would strike first as they opened the
scoring in the second minute of the first period, on
a goal mouth scramble, when the London forward
pounced on the loose puck and fired it behind a
sprawling Sting goalie. The Bandits would add
another, two minutes later on a similar goal closing
out the first period with a two goal lead.
As was in
their opening game, the Sting showed true grit and
never gave up. Early in the second period, Sting
left winger Mateo Troiani took the pass from Adam
Ikert and wristed the shot past the Bandit goalie to
bring the Sting within one. In the third period,
Sarnia tied the game on a beautiful individual rush
when Lleyton Williams showed his stick handling
ability and manouevered around the London defense
finding the back of the Bandit net with a hard
precise wrist shot. The goal seemed to lift the
Sting spirits as they began to pressure in the
offensive zone.
Their
efforts would be rewarded when centermen Cayden Wise
dumped the puck into the corner to winger Mateo
Troiani who made the perfect backhanded pass which
found the stick of teammate Adam Ikert who blasted a
shot into the bottom corner of the London goal. The
lead was short lived however, as London tied up the
game on a power play when the Bandit forward lifted
the puck over the shoulder of Sting goalie Ian
Stouth. Ian had a strong game in goal once again,
stopping numerous London chances to keep the Sting
in the game. The final buzzer sounded as the game
was deadlocked at 3's.
Great
effort and determination was exemplified by 'all'
Sting players. A strong performance by Sting
defenders as they shut down their opposition on many
occasions.
