Sarnia, ON – The LSSAA girls basketball season continued on Tuesday, and the LCCVI Lancers got their first win of the season with a 35-26 victory over St. Patrick's in junior girls action.

The Lancers trailed after the first quarter 7-6, but it would be the second quarter where they would turn it around. After an initial Irish basket, the Lancers held St. Patrick's off the scoreboard for six minutes. Stefurak lead the Lancers with six points in the quarter, while Vajey, and McPhail adding single baskets, as the Lancers take a 16-13 lead into the second half.

In the third, the Lancers continued to push their lead up to 11 by the end of the quarter, as the Irish looked to get back in by taking long distance shots, only for the rebounds to be brought down by the Lancers. McPhail had three points for the Lancers, while Roanson had two, and Bolton picked up a three pointer and assists in the quarter, as the Lancers lead 30-19 after the third.

In the fourth LCCVI controlled the ball, as St. Patrick's continued to claw away at the lead. Bolton picked up a steal for an easy two points, while Sam L. from St. Patrick's had five points in the quarter, with two long jumpers and an extra free throw.

But LCCVI's lead would be to much, as the Lancers only gave up two on their lead, resulting in a 35-26 final.

"They played really well and improved over the last couple of weeks," said Lancers coach Sara Krawotz. "We are in a very strong league so coming out with a win is very good for us."

LCCVI relied on out rebounding the Irish to keep possession, while St. Patrick's ball control was the downfall in their, causing turnovers and steals, leading the large third quarter lead. Krawotz expects good things from her young team.

"They are coming together as a team," she added. "They are pretty young, and a lot of athleticism so we just have to work on our skill now."

St. Patrick's had a 47-30 loss on Thursday, September 29th to St. Clair, while LCCVI played Northern. No result from that game.

LCCVI will have Thursday off, while St. Patrick's travels to Northern.
