Point Bantams Bring Home 4-2 Victory From Mt Brydges

The Point Edward Bantam Blackhawks travelled to Komoka to play the My Brydges-Blue team and brought home a 4-2 victory in Lambton-Middlesex league action.

The Hawks came right out and played the Cougars head-on with the Cougars getting few quality scoring chances early in the first with the Cougars defense playing well to keep the Hawks pressure off their goalie. Late in the period the Cougars got into penalty trouble and the Point capitalized when Gilroy passed the puck from behind the net to Smith who put it in the top corner to take a 1-0 lead into the second.

Early in the period, the Hawks made some great plays to keep the game at 1-0. Mt Brydges made a zone clearing pass to an open forward and McMichael was able to break- up the play as well as Collins made a great save to keep the Cougars off the board. Gilroy once again made a behind the net pass, and this time to Graham, who made it 2-0. Mid-way through the period, Smith got a zone clearing pass at center and stickhandled around the defense to give the Hawks a comfortable 3-0 lead. The Cougars defense began having trouble with the Point pressure as shown when Kootstra scored in a scramble in front of the Cougars net on the second try to make it 4-0. With seconds left in the period, the Cougars managed to get a break and scored to end the period 3-1.

The Point was playing smart early in the period by staying out of the penalty box and the defense played well by not letting the Cougars forwards get any good rebound opportunities. Fortey came up big when the Cougars were awarded a penalty shot and stopped it to keep the three goal lead and smother any Cougar momentum towards a come back. With seconds left, Mt Brydges managed to score to make it 4-2 but it was too little too late as the buzzer sounded to end the game.

Point Bantams Get Second Win In As Many Days

The Point Edward Bantam Blackhawks hosted the Lambton Shores Predators in their second game in as many days and got a 5-3 win in Lambton-Middlesex league action.

The Point came out similar to the night before by putting a lot of pressure on the Predators and keeping the puck in their end with play being physical and fast. The Predators drew first blood near the mid-point of the period when they caught the Hawks defense pinching in to get a 3 on 1 break to make it 1-0 and take some of the wind out of the Points sails. As the period came to a close, a Predator forward was able to beat the defense to make it 2-0 heading into the second.

The Predators continued to take the offensive to keep the Hawks off balance with both teams hitting hard and bodies hitting the ice with neither team getting any quality chances. Not until the middle of the period did the tide turn when Waddell slammed in a puck from a behind the net Marr pass to get the Hawks on the board. This gave the Point some momentum and minutes later Graham entered the Predators zone on the left side and took a slapper from the top of the circle that hit the 5-hole to tie it at 2-2. With the game tied, the remainder of the period had both teams playing aggressively.

Within the first minute of the third period, Smith took a shot to catch the Predators goalie off guard giving the Hawks a 3-2 lead. Within two minutes of the Hawks taking the lead, Waddell got his second of the night when his shot caught the corner of the net to extend the Point’s lead by two. The Point Edward defense played well in the third and made it difficult for the Predators to pass their blue line. Graham teamed up with Smith to make it 5-2 with the Predators getting one goal late to end it 5-3 in favour of the Hawks.
