The
Lambton Junior Sting Minor PeeWee
AAA picked up 3 out of 4 points on
the weekend with a 1 – 0 shutout
against the London Jr. Knights and a
3 – 3 tie with the Sun County
Panthers.
On
Thursday night, the Sting were
involved in a defensive battle with
the London Junior Knights. Neither
team was able to generate a lot of
quality scoring chances with Josh
Bayne playing another solid game in
the goal and the defensive corps
limiting the Knights to only 8 shots
on goal. The game would end in
dramatic fashion with Lambton
awarded a penalty shot with only 1
second left in the game after a
Knights player covered the puck with
his hands in the goal crease.
Matthew Torti would be counted on to
take the penalty shot and he would
not disappoint as he cruised in on
goal and snapped home a perfectly
placed shot in the corner of the net
and Lambton would take the game by a
final score of 1 – 0.
On
Saturday afternoon, the Sting would
jump out to a 3 – 0 lead over the
Sun County Panthers at the RBC
Center. Joe Ferrera would get the
Sting on the board in the first
period with a shot from the slot
assisted by Nolan Farr and Alec
Trusler. Lambton would take
advantage of the power play in the
beginning of the second period with
Cameron Adam scoring from close
range with assists going to Cameron
Rombouts and Tristan Haagsma. Josh
Vale would score another power play
goal from close range with assists
going to Joe Ferrera and Alec
Trusler to give the Sting a 3 – 0
lead at the midway point of the 2nd
period. The Sun County Panthers
would strike back with 2 late 2nd
period goals to cut the Lambton lead
to 1 goal entering the 3rd
period. In the 3rd
period, the Sting limited the
Panther attack effectively until Sun
County was able to break through
with only 25 seconds remaining on
the clock to tie the game for a
final score of 3 – 3. Jacob Knowles
played a solid game in net for the
Sting.
